چکیده

This work is concerned with the estimation of the bottom backscattering coefficient as a function of frequency and of incident angle. Generally, the backscattering coefficient is studied for a given frequency at various angle. But the backscattering depends not only on the angle, but also on the frequency. In our work, a wideband chirp sonar (20140kHz) with -3dB half-angle 12o has been used to collect the lacustrine bottom echoes, that makes it possible to study the backscattering coefficient as a function of frequency and of angle. For this purpose, a Chirp Adapted time-frequency representation is used, which can provide an approximate energy distribution in the time-frequency plane for multicomponent chirp signals. The obtained timefrequency representation is converted to the anglefrequency plane by the relationship between the time and the incident angle. The est imated backscat ter ing coefficients for sand bottom and pebble bottom are analyzed.

Image Processing Based Strategy for Adaptive Wideband Echolocation

Wideband bio-inspired sonar allows to study echo structure over a broad range of frequencies. The emitted wideband pulses have a linear chirp design. The structure of reflected pulses from the object provides information about a target’s content. Dips and peaks in the echo structure provide information about the target characteristic. The echo is highly dependent on the emitted pulse. Therefore...

Time-frequency representation of multicomponent chirp signals

This work deals with the analysis of chirp signals by means of time-frequency representation. We propose a chirp adapted time-frequency representation (CA) in which the interferences are significantly reduced. This method is applied to the analysis of acoustic echoes of a sphere target. Comparison of the results to other types of time-frequency distribution of the Cohen’s class shows that the i...

Analysis of chirp signals by time-frequency localization frames

A theory of frames that extend Gabor analysis by including chirping is discussed. The chirping parameter in thesètime-frequency localization frames' depends on time and/or frequency shift parameters that can be adapted to analyze and detect chirps in noisy signals. Radar/sonar applications are outlined. The frame theory is motivated by a generalized notion of square-integrable group representat...

Covariance-Based Direction-of-Arrival Estimation of Wideband Coherent Chirp Signals via Sparse Representation

This paper addresses the problem of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of multiple wideband coherent chirp signals, and a new method is proposed. The new method is based on signal component analysis of the array output covariance, instead of the complicated time-frequency analysis used in previous literatures, and thus is more compact and effectively avoids possible signal energy loss during...

Adaptive Algorithm for Chirp-Rate Estimation

Chirp-rate, as a second derivative of signal phase, is an important feature of nonstationary signals in numerous applications such as radar, sonar, and communications. In this paper, an adaptive algorithm for the chirp-rate estimation is proposed. It is based on the confidence intervals rule and the cubic-phase function. The window width is adaptively selected to achieve good tradeoff between b...
